Your Home's Building Envelope consists of it's Windows, Walls, Ceilings, Doors, and 'Cracks' - anywhere that
air, heat, or cold can enter and escape. The 'tighter' the envelope the better in terms of Energy Efficiency.
If your Home was built after 2006:
- You likely have NO INSULATION in your walls!
- You have a FRACTION of today’s standard insulation in your Attic!
- Your home LEAKS a significant amount of your Conditioned Air to the outdoors!
- Your Single-paned, Aluminum-framed Windows and Sliders are conducting 5 TIMES THE AMOUNT OF HEAT into your home than today’s High-Efficiency Windows and Sliders!
If your Home was built before 1978:
- You have R-13 INSULATION in your walls.
- You have R-32 INSULATION in your Attic.
- Your home has a TIGHT Envelope, keeping Conditioned air inside the house - and unconditioned air OUT.
- Your Dual-paned, Vinyl-framed Windows and Sliders are not conducting large amounts of HEAT into your home.
Progressively higher Building Standards were required in California after 1978. If your home was built between these dates, it will be progressively better.
THE TRADE-OFF
A 'Tight Envelope' is best for Energy Efficiency, but creates other problems with Indoor Air Quality (IAQ). Traditional Air Conditioning is a 'Closed System' - the existing air in your home is re-circulated over and over along with the invisible and undetectable pollutants given off by Glues, Fabrics, Aerosols, Cleaning Fluids, Cooking Odors, etc. that pervade the average Home. Not to mention Dust, Pollen, Pet Dander, Germs, Mold Spores, Smoke, etc. Some of the larger Particles are trapped by the Cheap, Fiberglass filter in most Air Conditioners - but only a fraction.
- The American Medical Association reports that 1/3 of our national health bill is for causes directly attributed to indoor air pollution.
- The American College of Allergists say that over 50% of all allergies are related to Indoor Air Quality.
THE SOLUTION
This IAQ issue is recognized, and in many newer homes, the Air Conditioning system is designed to introduce some Fresh Air into the system a few times an hour to compensate for this.
Most Older homes are more than 'Leaky' enough to combat IAQ issues and will benefit Energy-wise and in cleanliness by sealing major leaks, reducing hot air and dirt infiltration.
Our EnviroCool Cooling System eliminates this IAQ problem completely by exhausting all the air in your Home several times and hour, and replacing it continuously with Fresh, Filtered air. The EnviroCool works BEST in a 'tight envelope'.
